Farming for Today.
Stewardship for Tomorrow.

At Cluckwell, sustainability isn't a program — it's a way of operating. We care for our land, our animals, and our community because that's what good farming looks like.

How We Define Sustainability

We look at sustainability through three lenses: environmental impact, animal welfare, and community investment. All three matter equally.

🌿

Environmental Responsibility

Protecting Iowa's natural resources for the next generation of farmers and communities.

  • Responsible water use and conservation
  • Waste reduction and composting programs
  • Energy efficiency in our processing plant
  • Reduced packaging and material waste
  • Ongoing carbon footprint monitoring
🐔

Animal Welfare

Our chickens are raised with care — because how they live affects the quality of what we produce.

  • Adequate space and proper ventilation
  • Quality nutrition with no growth hormones
  • Stress-minimizing handling protocols
  • Humane processing standards
  • Regular welfare audits and assessments
🏙️

Community Investment

Cluckwell is rooted in CC Iowa. We invest in the people and place that make our operation possible.

  • Good-paying local employment
  • Benefits and career development
  • Local supplier partnerships
  • Community event sponsorships
  • Support for local schools and programs

Protecting Iowa's
Land and Water

💧

Water Management

Water is Iowa's most precious farming resource. Our facility uses closed-loop water systems to minimize consumption and properly treat and discharge all wastewater in compliance with state and federal regulations.

We continually invest in upgrades that reduce water use per unit of production and monitor discharge quality to protect local waterways.

🔋

Energy Efficiency

Our plant has implemented LED lighting, variable-speed refrigeration systems, and waste heat recovery to reduce our energy footprint. We benchmark energy use per unit of production and set annual improvement targets.

♻️

Waste Reduction

We operate a zero-landfill-to-processing goal. Organic materials from our plant are composted or converted for agricultural use. We continually look for ways to turn byproducts into value — reducing waste while lowering costs.

Packaging materials are reviewed annually with a goal of reducing single-use plastics where viable alternatives exist.

🌱

Farmland Stewardship

The farms we work with follow soil health best practices including cover cropping and responsible nutrient management. Protecting topsoil is not just about sustainability — it's about ensuring the land remains productive for future generations.

Our Chickens
Live Well

We believe that how an animal is raised — the space it has, what it's fed, how it's handled — directly affects the quality of the product and reflects the character of the company producing it.

Our birds are raised in well-ventilated housing with access to quality feed and clean water. They receive no added growth hormones or steroids. Veterinary care is available and our flocks are monitored daily for health and welfare indicators.

At processing, we follow industry-leading humane handling protocols to minimize stress. Our team is trained in low-stress handling techniques and all processes are designed with animal welfare as a key consideration.
